The Council of Europe has strongly criticized the execution of a criminal for a murder in Belarus.

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CE), Thorbjørn Jagland believes that Russia and other "problematic" member countries of the Council of Europe should remain in the organization for as long as they do not violate the four articles of the European Convention on Human Rights.

Russia wants to reduce contributions to Council of Europe
Russia is investigating the possibility of reducing its contributions to the Council of Europe (CE) since there is no way to influence the operation of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Izvestiya reports with reference to a source in the State Duma.
