    The Ukrainian government’s press service reported on Sunday, December 30th, that Ukraine would test new weapons in 2019. 

    It is noted that testing of the Ukraine-made man-portable air defense missile system (MANPADS) Kolibri (Hummingbird) will begin.

  • President Poroshenko signs bill giving OUN and UPA fighters status of combatants for independence of Ukraine

    On Saturday, December 22, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed Bill 8519 "On the status of war veterans and guarantees of their social protection" which aims at strengthening the social status of participants in the war for the independence of Ukraine, as reported on the Verkhovna Rada’s website.

  • Ukrainian President promotes five colonels to the rank of General

    Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko promoted five Colonels of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to the rank of General and promoted two Major Generals to Lieutenant Generals, according to a decree published on the President’s website.

    The new Lieutenant Generals are Marine Corps Commander Major-General Yuriy Sodol and Rodion Tymoshenko, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Major General of the Ukrainian Navy.

  • Kyiv asks Ottawa to extend the stay of Canadian military trainers in Ukraine

    Ukraine started negotiations with the Canadian Delegation on extending the UNIFIER operation training mission, said Ukrainian Ambassador to Canada Andriy Shevchenko in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

    "The UNIFIER mission started in 2015, was extended in 2017 and now it's officially set to continue up to March 31, 2019.     The Ukrainian Defense Ministry intends to deploy a battalion of the mountain assault brigade in Berehove in the Zakarpattia region, Defense Ministry Spokesperson Dmytro Hutsulyak announced at a press briefing, the department’s press service reports.

    A ceremony was held in Odessa on the occasion of four small armored artillery boats being inducted into the Ukrainian Navy. They are the Vyshgorod, Kremenchug, Lubny and Nikopol, reported the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
