Ukraine detains a woman who worked for Putin's elections campaign in Crimea

Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko announced on Facebook that a citizen of Ukraine had been detained by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Prosecutor’s Office in connection with organizing signatures in support for the presidency of Vladimir Putin for the Russian Federation. The detained woman was a confidant of Putin, who supported his candidacy in the territories of the Crimea and Sevastopol by collecting signatures.

“The detained citizen of Ukraine assisted the Russian Federation by participating in the preparation for holding illegal elections for the President of the Russian Federation in the occupied territory of the Crimean Autonomous Republic and city Sevastopol,” Lutsenko stated. “She assisted the All-Russian non-governmental organization ‘Volunteers of Victory’ through subversive activities against Ukraine to the detriment of its sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability.”

The woman was detained as part of criminal investigation into high treason . She will soon be informed of the charges against her.
