The Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations said Russia likes to oppose everyone

The Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the United Nations, Volodymyr Yelchenko, stated in an interview with Radio Svoboda that Russia is satisfied with the role of being “against all” in international relations. According to him, he didn't succeed in establishing working relations with Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vitaly Churkin.

Commenting on his attempts to establish working relations with Churkin, Yelchenko noted that these attempts failed due to the polarized stances of Ukraine and the Russian Federation on many issues in international relations.

“There are many other issues. There are the African conflicts and the Middle East. In almost all situations, Russia maintains such a stance that everybody is against it. They are the only ones in the right who know what to do,” the former Ambassador of Ukraine to Russia said.

“I just provided examples to make it clear that the whole essence of Russia’s conflicts of interest with the whole world is not only a Ukrainian issue. It reminds me of the 1980s, the peak of the Cold War where they said that the situation was even worse than in the 1970s. However, I remember better times when five to ten countries supported Russia and the rest were against it. It seems that Russia, unfortunately, likes the “against all” role very much,” Yelchenko noted.

Yelchenko previously noted that depriving Russia’s veto right in the U.N Security Council depends on the permanent members of the Security Council.
