Gazprom: Transit through Ukraine will decrease by a factor of 10 after the launch of Nord Stream 2
After the Nord Stream 2 and Turkstream gas pipelines have been launched, Russian gas transit through Ukraine will drop tenfold, said the Chairman of Gazprom's Board, Alexey Miller, Interfax reports. However, Miller claimed that the gas transit through the territory of Ukraine will not stop completely.
"As there are neighboring states, there are regions that are on the border with Ukraine on the part of Europe and, without a doubt, the deliveries to these regions of Europe will be carried out by transit through the territory of Ukraine. Another thing is that these are volumes that will no doubt be less significant. Apparently, it could be about 10-15 billion cubic meters of gas per year," Miller said.
When asked about the conditions of future cooperation with Ukraine, Miller said, "Negotiations are to be held. In any case, these are not the conditions that we have received as part of the consideration of the claim in Stockholm arbitration court."
2017 gas volume deliveries reached a record, eight-year high: 93.5 billion cubic meters was delivered to Europe. 82 billion cubic meters were delivered in 2016.
In late February, a long-standing dispute between Naftogaz and Gazprom in the Stockholm Arbitration Court was concluded that obliged the Russian concern to pay Naftogaz $4.63 billion for the undersupply of agreed volumes of transit gas. According to the results of two arbitration disputes between the companies on the supply and transit of gas, Gazprom should pay Naftogaz an additional $2.56 billion.
