USA deploys 1,500 soldiers to Germany

The United States will increase its military contingent in Germany by 1,500 people. Its aim is to “strengthen NATO and European security,” stated US Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell. He said that more soldiers would arrive this year and that the process would last until 2020.

German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen welcomed Washington’s decision, which  according to her, demonstrates “the viability of the transatlantic relationship” and a contribution to “maintaining overall security.”

About 33,000 US military are in Germany now. dpa news agency reports that additional forces will be deployed to American garrisons in the federal states of Bavaria and the Rhineland-Palatinate.
