US representative for Ukraine Volker may be replaced by Ex-CIA officer

72-year-old former CIA officer Michael Kostiw could replace former US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker, reports UNIAN news agency.

Kostiw worked for the CIA for ten years, he was also an employee of one of the largest oil and gas companies,Chevron, and since 2011 has served as Vice President of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists. And since January 2017 he is also the adviser to the Director of National Intelligence Dan Coates.

Earlier, media reported that Kostiw might take the post of US Ambassador to Ukraine.

Volker resigned after the White House published a transcript of a telephone conversation between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and American President Donald Trump. During the call, Trump asked for an investigation into Hunter Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden. Several media pointed out that the US President tried to "put pressure" on Zelensky, delaying the allocation of military aid to Kyiv. Because of the scandal, the US Congress initiated the impeachment procedure and is investigating Trump.
