United States Deputy Secretary of State explains purpose of supplying Ukraine with defensive weapons

During a speech at the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine, United States Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan explained that his country’s goal in providing Ukraine with defensive weapons is to ensure Ukraine’s protection against external aggressive attacks, UNIAN reports.

Speaking about defensive weapons, the diplomat said that "these weapons should not be a threat to anyone who does not conceive of aggression or offensive actions."
The speech, in this case, regarded an installment of sniper rifles and a future delivery of Javelin anti-tank missile systems.

"No one should be threatened by the use of this weapon, unless the matter concerns participation in aggressive behavior; because, in this case, we will do everything we can to cooperate with and protect Ukraine so that it can protect its territorial integrity," Sullivan added.

US Special Representative for Ukraine Kurt Volker earlier stated that the military assistance program for Ukraine provides for the delivery of free weapons as well as for the sale of other weapons.
