Ukraine initiates criminal proceedings against organizers of LPR elections

The Prosecutor’s office of the Luhansk region initiated criminal proceedings for organizing and holding the “regular elections for the head of the LPR and deputies of the People’s Council” by the separatist administration of Russia on the temporarily annexed territories of the Luhansk region, reported the press service of the Prosecutor’s Office. 

The criminal proceedings are based on articles on forcible change or overthrowing constitutional order, violation of the territorial integrity of Ukraine, establishment of a separatist organization, and managing such group or participating in it. 

"The investigators have identified individuals that directly organized and financed the illegal elections and participated as ‘candidates’ for the positions of the quasi-state LPR and also representatives of foreign states that observed them," reported the Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the Ukrainian criminal code =, perpetrators and accessories may face imprisonment for up to 15 years with or without confiscation of property.

Earlier, Oleksandr Turchynov, the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine stated that everyone involved in organizing and holding the so-called elections on November 11 would be brought to justice.
