U.S. blocks Russian resolution in UN Security Council

The United States blocked a proposal by Russia in the UN Security Council that was connected with the attack on the Russian embassy in Damascus, Interfax reports.

The press secretary of Russia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, Fyodor Strzhalkhovsky, said that the draft of the UN Security Council press statement proposed by Russia, condemning the attack by terrorists on the Russian embassy in Damascus on November 20, was again blocked by the American delegation.

“This is yet another instance – far from the first – when, the leaders of the so-called ‘coalition’ demonstrate double standards with respect to terrorist acts, whose targets are Russian diplomatic missions abroad,” said Strzhalkhovsky.

Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that the Russian embassy in Damascus was hit by mortar fire.

On November 16, Russia blocked an American resolution in the UN Security Council on the extension of the joint mechanism of the UN and the OPCW to investigate the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
