Ukrainian military detects Serbian snipers near Bakhmut highway in the Donbas

A group of Serbian snipers have been noticed around the 31st checkpoint on the Bakhmut highway, according to information received by the Ukrainian volunteer organization “Come Back Alive" from Ukrainian intelligence officers.

"They arrived a couple of weeks ago. There is information that these are Serbs for sure. In December last year, this group operated in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions," one of intelligence officers said.

These are allegedly the same Serbian mercenaries responsible for killing six Ukrainian soldiers in the Donetsk region. "I cannot disclose the details but mercenaries have already been held responsible and will continue to be held responsible for shedding blood on our land," the source in intelligence added.

In October 2017, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said that since the beginning of the conflict in the Donbas, more than 300 Serbian citizens have been fighting in the territory controlled by the LPR (Luhansk People’s Republic) alone. The Ukrainian Ambassador to Serbia has repeatedly refused to comment on the information about the participation of its citizens in the war in the Donbas.

The Prosecutor's Office of Serbia stated that since the end of 2014, 45 cases have been initiated against mercenaries who participated in military conflicts abroad, including in the Donbas.
