Syrian army prepares for an air strike by the United States

The Syrian air force was brought to full combat readiness throughout the country. The highest level of readiness was announced because of a possible air strike against Damascus by the US, reports news agency Al-Masdar News, referring to a source at the Mezzeh airbase (southwest of the Syrian capital).

Earlier, the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, Major-General Igor Konashenkov said that the United States continues to build up military forces in the Middle East. According to him, Washington strengthening the military presence in the area is connected with the preparation of the use of chemical weapons in the Syrian province of Idlib.

“On August 25th, A US Navy destroyer, Ross, armed with 28 Tomahawk missiles entered the Mediterranean. The range of these missiles allows to strike throughout multiple Syrian territories,” said Konashenkov. “The destroyer USS The Sullivans, armed with 56 cruise missiles also arrived in the Persian Gulf. B-1B US Air Force bombers arrived at Al-Udeid air base in Qatar, equipped with 24 “air-to-surface” JASSM air missiles,“ he added.

On August 27th, French President Emmanuel Macron promised to strike Syria in the event of chemical weapons being used in Damascus. “We will continue to act in this way if we see new confirmed cases of chemical weapons use,” he said, recalling, that Paris had already struck Damascus.
