Ukraine seizes property of the former Head of Yanukovych's administration

The property and bank accounts belonging to Andriy Klyuyev and his brother Serhiy were seized during a criminal investigation, as stated in the response of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine to the inquery of the UNN agency. Klyuyev is the former Head of the Administration of the Ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych.

"To ensure criminal proceedings on the property, the arrest is imposed on the bank accounts of the suspects [Andrey and Sergey Klyuyev], both on the territory of Ukraine and abroad," reads the Prosecutor General's Office’s response.

The office did not specify in which countries the property of the Klyuyevs was arrested and for what amounts. Additionally, the Prosecutor General's Office specified that the Klyuyevs had been put on the wanted list. The Office reports that Klyuyev is currently in Russia.
The case against Klyuyev was initiated under Part 5 of Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine on misappropriation, embezzlement of property or its acquisition by abuse of official position. The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine also suspects Andrey Klyuyev of "illegal obstruction of rallies” through physical violence, as well as allowing the abuse of authority by law enforcement officials".

The charges refer to mass protests in Kyiv in the winter of 2013 to 2014, which resulted in demonstrators clashing with policemen. 106 people were killed. In February 2014, the situation escalated and then-President Viktor Yanukovych left Ukraine. The Verkhovna Rada found that Yanukovych had refused to exercise the constitutional powers of the President.

On Friday, October 6, it became known that the authorities of Ukraine received Yanukovych's property for $48 million arrested by the court. This refers to 154 real estate objects, 22 transport vehicles, 1 thousand iron gondolas in the value of UAH 900 million ($33.5 million), as well as "corporate rights of legal entities" in the amount of over UAH 400 million ($14.9 million).
