Anniversary of Crimea's annexation will be celebrated for three days in Moscow

The fifth anniversary of the annexation of the Crimea will be celebrated in Moscow with a three-day festival called the “Crimean Spring,” reported the website of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin. According to the information provided on the website, the festival will take place from March 16 to 18. Other details, including the schedule and places of the events are not specified.

Earlier, the Crimean authorities subordinate to the Kremlin published the plan of the events devoted to the celebration. According to the document, there are plans to create a commemorative coin, to hold song and art competitions and to make a movie about “the referendum” of 2014 within two months.

The internationally recognized Ukrainian territory of Crimea was annexed by the Russian Federation in March of 2014 in the wake of the Ukrainian revolution. The Kremlin has faced international condemnation for its annexation of the Peninsula, leading many western countries to impose economic sanctions against Russia. In the United Nations, only Afghanistan, North Korea, Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Syria recognize Crimea as a legitimate federal subject of Russia.
