Russia complains Norway refuses to send Syrian refugees home

Norwegian authorities have been refusing to send Syrian refugees home, said Nikolai Burtsev, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during meeting of the Russian interdepartmental coordination center for the return of Syrian refugees.

According to Burtsev, the Russian embassy in Norway appealed to the Norwegian authorities “regarding the return of Syrian refugees”, RIA Novosti reported.

"According to the response of the Norwegian Minister of Justice, taking into account the assessment of the situation in Syria by Norway, Norwegian authorities do not plan to make a decision on the return of Syrians," Burtsev said.

He also stressed that consultations with Norwegian diplomats are still in progress.

Burtsev previously said that Russian diplomats are working towards mobilizing international efforts aimed at facilitating the return of Syrian refugees.

On August 13, UN representative from different countries spoke out against the return of refugees to Syria.
