Putin may visit Israel this year

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been invited to Israel to take part in commemorative events dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp by Soviet troops, Russian Ambassador to Israel Anatoly Viktorov stated in an interview with TASS.

The Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp was liberated on January 27, 1945. The UN set this day as International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The Russian diplomat said that, at the end of last year, Putin received an invitation to visit Israel from Israeli President Reuven Rivlin. The invitation is “being considered by the administration of the Russian president with due attention”.

In addition, Viktorov confirmed the information about Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s upcoming visit to Russia. He noted that “they have discussing the issue and have reached a specific agreement”.

Earlier, Netanyahu said that his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin will take place on February 21.
