President Poroshenko promises new weapons to Ukrainian paratroopers

The Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive new types of weapons soon, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko stated during a meeting with the staff of Ukraine’s Air Assault Forces after the completion of military exercises in the Zhytomyr Oblast, Interfax Ukraine reported.

 “The pace of rearmament does not fully meet our needs. I want to assure that the government  will do everything to solve these problems as soon as possible,” Poroshenko said.

In addition, he noted that he has already had short meetings with representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the leadership of the General Staff of Ukraine’s Armed Forces to discuss these issues. "We have set tasks to make relevant proposals. Besides, we will give corresponding instructions to the Ukrainian government and appeals to the parliament,” Poroshenko said.

 “I declare that the Ukrainian Army will always have the full support of the commander in chief,” Poroshenko added.

Poroshenko said that in 2019, Ukraine's Air Assault Forces will receive both domestic and foreign military equipment, in particular, armored personnel carriers, the best models of foreign, cargo and special vehicles, Svityaz command and staff vehicles, and anti-tank missile systems, including the Javelin." 

Poroshenko said that the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has received about 150 new weapons and military equipment in recent years.
