Ukrainian President asks NATO countries for assistance in creating Anti-Corruption Court

In an interview to Ukrainian TV channels, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has called on the leaders of NATO countries to provide Ukraine with international experts to assist in the establishment of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court (SACC), the press service of Poroshenko reports.

"During the meetings with the leaders of the NATO state members at the summit I discussed the issue and urged them to provide Ukraine with international experts as soon as possible to help us form an independent Anti – Corruption Court," the President said.

Poroshenko also urged the Cabinet of Ministers and the Verkhovna Rada to create all necessary conditions, including financial, in order the court could start its work in 2018.

President Petro Poroshenko signed the law on creation of Supreme Anti-Corruption Court (SACC) on June 26.

The creation of SACC is one of the principal demands of Western creditors. But it has been blocked for a long time. Initially, the authorities suggested establishing a chamber in the existing system instead of a separate court. In the fall of 2017, the rhetoric changed, and in December the President submitted a bill to the Parliament.

On June 7, 2018 the Verkhovna  Rada adopted the law on the Anti-Corruption court. It entered into force on June 14.
