Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council approves Savchenko sanctions list
The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) has approved the list of sanctions against persons involved in the illegal convictions of Nadiya Savchenko and other Ukrainian citizens in Russia as reported by the Press Secretary of the President, Svyatoslav Tsegolko, on Facebook.
"The National Security Council has approved the 'Savchenko and Sentsov sanctions list' against those who fabricated the case against the Ukrainians in Russia. This list will later be expanded to include the falsifiers of other cases, in particular those against the Crimean Tatars. As stated in the press release from the National Security Council, the managers and employees of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB), Russian prosecutors, judges and military are on the sanctions list," Tsegolko said.
As the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, said at the NSDC meeting, the sanctions list should include "the Savchenko and Sentsov list" and the individuals that fabricated the cases against Oleksandr Kolchenko, Stanislav Clych, Mukola Karpuk and other Ukrainians illegally detained in Russia should be added to it.
"This decision does not stop our hard work on the immediate release of Nadiya Savchenko and other Ukrainian heroes," Poroshenko said. The President of Ukraine also indicated that the persons involved in the torture of Ukrainians and the Crimean Tatars in Crimea should also be added to the list.
On the 24th of March, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved and submitted the proposals concerning the sanctions to be levied against "the Savchenko list" to the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to inform the relevant bodies of the European Union, the US and other states to consider the introduction of such sanctions after the NSDC brings them into effect.
On the 17th of March, 2016 the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, during his visit to Brussels, gave the leaders of the EU the proposed sanctions against those who, according to him, fabricated the case against Nadiya Savchenko. Later it became known that the list contains 46 names.
