Ukrainian Anti-Corruption Bureau claims the Party of Regions’ 'Black Accounts' case is being investigated by only one detective

Only one detective from the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine is investigating the Party of Regions’ "Black Accounts" case. This was said by the head of the Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office, Nazar Holodnitsky in an interview with the Ukrayinska Pravda Internet newspaper.

"In fact, only one person in the NABU is investigating the so-called ‘black account books’ case at the moment, although previously there were seven to ten detectives. I do not know where they have all gone," he said.

Holodnitsky also noted that he had repeatedly asked the head of the NABU’s responsible subdivision to strengthen the group of detectives in this matter. "I repeatedly insisted that the group should be strengthened. But the only thing I constantly hear from the head of the unit is ‘we have no people,’" the head of the SAP says.

In addition, Holodnitsky noted that in the black account books there was not a single signature of the American spin doctor Paul Manafort. "No expert examinations were appointed, so there are no grounds to think that he had put his signature somewhere. This is all just speculation. We cannot compare Ohendovsky’s case with that of Manafort. Paul Manafort is under no suspicion and neither has he any status," he added.

As reported, on May 31 People's Deputy Serhiy Leshchenko unveiled information indicative of the allocation of large amounts by the Party of Regions for the activities of the Our Ukraine party and the Communist Party, as well as for the work of the Central Election Commission in 2012.

American lobbyist and political consultant Paul Manafort also appeared in those documents. This scandal with the black accounts forced him to leave the election campaign of then-U.S. Presidential candidate Donald Trump.

NABU has confirmed that the name of Manafort was among the lists of the Party of Regions’ black account books, which indicate he had received $12.7 million.
