EU advised Ukraine not to think about membership yet

As reported by DW, the EU advised Ukraine not to think about membership yet. The EU is confident that the Ukrainian state needs to concentrate on reforms, and any other questions will create "illusions in Ukraine," said Hugues Mingarelli, the Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.

According to Mingarelli, the issue of Ukraine's membership in the EU is not on the European Union’s agenda. "This issue is not on our agenda, to put it bluntly. And I do not think that anyone should raise this issue," he said.

According to him, there will be several years of very hard and serious work, on which Ukraine should focus. "The rest of the issues should not even be raised, it will only create illusions for Ukraine and difficulties on the part of the EU," Mingarelli said. Earlier, the head of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, said that Ukraine would not join the EU in the next 20-25 years. However, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko optimistically noted that when modern schoolchildren become adults, Ukraine will already be a member of the European Union.
