Russian Customs Service: Ukraine was the largest consumer of Russian meat and beer in 2016

Ukraine has taken the top spot as the largest consumer of Russian beer and meat, surpassing even Kazakhstan, data from the Russian Federal Customs Service (FCS) indicated, as reported by Vedomosti.

According the FCS data, in 2016 Ukraine purchased 47,890 tons of Russian meat, while in 2013-2014 Ukraine purchased almost no meat or meat products from Russia.

Additionally, Russian beer supplies to Ukraine increased in 2016 by 150% year on year to 38.46 million deciliters.

In the previous year, almost 30% of all Russian exports of beer and meat were supplied to eastern Ukraine.

Analysts interviewed by the publication believed that these deliveries center around the Donbas, whose unrecognized territories were supplied for the most part through Russia.

Russian customs officials did not name any specific regions being supplied.
