Turkish Foreign Minister: Assad should not remain in power in Syria

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated during his visit to Beirut that Bashar al-Assad can’t remain in power in Syria. According to Çavuşoğlu, the Syrian President is responsible for 600,000 deaths and that is why Bashar al-Assad has lost the right to be the President of Syria, Reuters reported.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey also called the situation in Aleppo critical, calling for an immediate ceasefire in the country.

As Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu noted, Ankara is negotiating with Iran, Russia, Syria, and Lebanon on the resolution of the Syrian conflict. According to Çavuşoğlu, deep differences still remain between them despite the fact that all parties have agreed on the need for a ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian assistance to Aleppo.
