During a press conference in Helsinki, the Presidents of Finland and Estonia, Sauli Niinistö and Kersti Kaljulaid, stated they have not excluded imposing additional sanctions against Russia due to its actions in Syria, reported Postimees news agency. According to the President of Estonia, Kersti Kaljulaid, who is in Finland on a State visit, what is happening in Syria is the largest humanitarian disaster of our time.

Kaljulaid noted that, according to the international community, if sanctions have the desired effect, then they should be extended. The President of Finland, Sauli Niinistö stated that Finland also isn’t excluding the extension of sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation. However, at the same time, he emphasized that a dialogue should be conducted along with the economic pressure.

Sanctions against Russia are being discussed at the meeting of the European Council in Brussels. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland previously stated that economic sanctions against Russia should be maintained and probably strengthened.
