Swiss fighters escorted aircraft carrying Russian delegation

An aircraft of the Swiss Air Force flew close to an airliner with the Russian delegation on board, as they were heading to Peru for the APEC summit. Members of the delegation on board included the head of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) Alexander Fomin. They will accompany President Vladimir Putin at the meeting.

It is reported that the incident occurred in the sky over Switzerland. One of the fighters flew up close to the Russian aircraft from the left side "at an unsafe distance," maneuvered, and then approached on the right. It was so close that one could even see the hull number of the Air Force aircraft.

The aircraft commander explained that on this route it "is a common practice." It is noted that the fighters stopped escorting the aircraft after it had left the country's airspace.

The Russian President has arrived at the summit in Lima via another flight from Sochi, where he had previously held a meeting with the military leadership of the country.
