Sargsyan: Armenia will continue to defend Nagorno-Karabakh

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has said that Armenia will meet its commitment to protect Nagorno-Karabakh, Interfax reported.

Armenia has lost 18 servicemen and another 35 were injured during the fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh, according to Deutsche Welle.

Sargsyan also stated that the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs was entrusted to develop the Mutual Military Assistance Pact in cooperation with the Foreign Ministry of the self-declared Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

According to the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Azerbaijanis initiated the armed provocation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan accused the Armenians of being responsible for the escalation of the conflict. The press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan reported that 12 Azerbaijani servicemen were killed during the fighting.

Early on Sunday, Baku called a unilateral ceasefire, but the Armenia-backed forces said this was not true, and that Azerbaijani forces were continuing to use heavy weapons.
