Russian MoD and Pentagon discuss flight safety measures in Syria

The Russian Ministry of Defense and the United States Department of Defense have discussed measures to improve the safety of Russian and American-led coalition air forces. The website of the Russian Foreign Ministry says that the negotiations were held via video-conference.

“Additional safety measures for actions of the Russian Aerospace Forces and aviation of the US-led coalition in Syrian airspace were discussed,” the report says.

Also, it was reported that the parties discussed the implementation of the memorandum of understanding on the prevention of accidents and flight safety of aviation in Syria.

The parties stressed the importance of continued discussion in this format and agreed to hold the next video-conference in December 2016.

“The discussion was constructive; both parties emphasized the need to firmly adhere to the memorandum of understanding to avoid incidents in the sky over Syria,” the representative from the Pentagon stated.
