Syrian military: Russian Air Force played key role in Syrian Army's victories
The support of Russian Air Force played the central role in recent victories of the Syrian army in the fight with militants, as stated by the Chief of the General Staff of the Syrian Arab Army, Ali Abdullah Ayyoub.
"The support provided by Russian Aerospace Forces played the central role in these victories, paving the way to the agreement on cessation of hostilities and creating the relevant conditions for launching the process of political settlement of the crisis in Syria,” Ayyoub said during a video conference with the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Valery Gerasimov.
He also noted that Russia’s firm and unyielding commitment to provide assistance to Syrian Army creates a strong foundation for the continued fight with terrorist groups that remain in Syria.
"Syrian people hope for the further strengthening of links with the Russian Federation in all spheres including strengthening of military cooperation between two countries and after the victory over terrorism,” Ayyoub added.
In turn, the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Army stated that the liberation of Aleppo can lay the foundation for the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Syria.
"The success of Syrian armed forces in liberating Aleppo created necessary conditions for peaceful settlement of the conflict. Reaching an agreement on the cessation of the hostilities in the territory of Syria became a clear evidence of it,” he said. "I’m sure that it will pave the way for political settlement of the conflict.”
