Russia tested latest missiles in Syria

Russia has used the new X-101 air-launched missiles in combat for the first time in Syria. Interfax reported that this was said by the head of the Ministry of Defense of Russia, Sergey Shoygu.

“We gained practical experience in firing long-range precision-guided weapons from ships and submarines in the Caspian and Mediterranean seas. Strategic aviation aircraft used the new X-101 air-launched missiles for the first time. These missiles have a range of up to 4,500 kilometers in a real combat situation,” Shoygu said.

He also discussed the success achieved by Russia during a year of operations in Syria.

“The situation in the country has stabilized, a significant part of its territory was freed from the armed groups of international terrorists and the Russian Center for Reconciliation for the warring parties was organized,” Shoygu said.

Shoygu went on to say that “during the operations, the Aerospace Forces executed strikes at places of accumulation of militants and their infrastructure, they carried out the delivery of humanitarian supplies to Syrian citizens and they solved other important problems”.

It was previously reported that the Russian X-101 'invisible' missiles debuted in Syria on the 19th of November.

Russia launched a military operation in Syria on the 30th of September last year at the request of the country’s president, Bashar al-Assad. On the 14th of March, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the withdrawal of the main part of the Russian forces from the Syrian base.

Putin later said that Russia will continue to provide Assad with financial and intelligence support, including from space.
