Russia demands explanations from U.S. about new sanctions

Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Vladimir Safronkov, said at a meeting of the Security Council of the UN that was held on Friday, June 2, that the Russian authorities expect to receive an explanation from the U.S. regarding sanctions imposed against Russians and some Russian companies suspected by Washington of cooperating with North Korea, as reported by Novosti.

"We would like to hear explanations from the American side regarding the June 1 expansion of U.S. sanctions against the DPRK, which affected three Russian companies and one citizen of our country," he said.

In his opinion, such actions of the US authorities cause "bewilderment and deep disappointment".

On June 1, The U.S. Treasury introduced restrictive measures against the Independent Oil and Gas Company of the former head of Rosneft, Eduard Khudainatov. The sanctions were also introduced against the subsidiary oil distributor of NNK Primornefteprodukt and Ardis-Bearings LLC.

In addition, sanctions were imposed againts a Russian citizen - Igor Michurin who is affiliated with Korea Tangun Trading Corporation.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that Moscow regrets that the introduction of new sanctions by the United States occurred after Donald Trump came to power in the country.
