Russia conducts snap combat readiness check of its Black Sea fleet in the Crimea

According to Russia’s Interfax news agency, the Command of Russia’s Southern Military District has begun the combat readiness check of the Black Sea Fleet in the Crimea.  

Coastal and naval units of the Black Sea Fleet were put into the high readiness state, Interfax reports citing the press service of the Southern Military District.

Anti-submarine ships and minesweepers sailed to the Black as part of the exercise. In addition, the coastal units of the fleet were put into combat state.

The press service of the Southern Military District noted that the Navy command observed the actions of the units from the coastal command centers.

"The warships have advanced to the training ranges in the sea,” the press representative service of the Southern Military district stated.

According to Interfax, he readiness check will last for a few days and "take place within the established grounds and marine sites of the Black Sea Fleet in the Crimean peninsula and in the Black Sea".

Earlier, on 6 June, the Russian military command in the Crimea conducted a combat readiness check exercise of Su-27 fighter jets.

Another readiness check conducted on June 1, involved about 6.5 thousand serviceman and 1.5 units of military and special purpose equipment, reported RIA Novosti, citing Vadim Astafyev, the head of the press service of the Southern Military District, as saying.
