Putin promises to launch the fourth string of the Energy Bridge to Crimea in early May

The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin expects that the fourth string of the Energy Bridge to Crimea from neighboring Kuban will be launched in early May. Putin stated this at the meeting with the members of the Council of legislators on the 29th of April, the Kremlin press service reported.

“Power engineering specialists had this well-planned ahead of schedule, but now the weather is unfavorable in the channels and vessels are forced to reduce the work for a few days. That’s why everything will be done, I mean the fourth string will be put into operation in the coming days. We will complete this work in early May,” President Putin said.

On the December 30, 2015, energy supplies from Ukraine were halted because of the breakage of power pylons in the Kherson region. The 250 MW power lines have now been fully restored. However, electric power isn’t being supplied to Crimea because the contract on energy supplies to the Crimean peninsula expired.

Currently, Crimea generates its own power and gets additional electricity from Russia and the Energy Bridge from Kuban. The Energy Bridge would not be able to withstand the load on its own. On the 14th of April, the Russian Minister of Energy, Alexander Novak reported that the third string of the Energy Bridge from Russia to Crimea was put into operation.
