President of Philippines asks Putin for weapons

President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin that his country needs modern weapons and will ask for help from the Russian Federation, RIA Novosti reported.

Duterte also said that he had come to Moscow to enlist the support of Russia.

“Our country needs modern weapons. We had ordered certain things from the U.S., but now the situation is not going very smoothly. And in order to fight the Islamic State, with their many units and factions, we need modern weapons. I came to enlist your support and ask for your help,” the Philippine President said.

He also added that the two countries should develop trade relations, and he explained to Putin why he had to return to his homeland, where the fighting with terrorists continues.

“Unfortunately, I need to fly home and be there. People are dying there, people have been killed,” he said.

Duterte decided to cut short his official visit to Moscow, which was to last from May 22nd to 26th. Earlier, he imposed martial law in the south of the Philippines because of clashes between state troops and a group with connections to ISIS.
