Moscow to hold celebration rally on anniversary of annexation of Crimea
Authorities in Moscow approved an application to hold a concert and rally on the anniversary of Russia’s annexation of the Crimea on March 18th, Ekho Moskvii reported.
The application was approved by the Moscow Mayor’s office, and authorities estimate 10,000 Muscovites will attend the concert entitled “We are Together!” on March 18th at Vasilevsky Spusk near the Kremlin. Roads near Red Square are expected to be closed for the day.
The internationally recognized Ukrainian territory of Crimea was annexed by the Russian Federation in March of 2014 in the wake of the Ukrainian revolution. The Kremlin has faced international condemnation for its annexation of the Peninsula, leading many western countries to impose economic sanctions against Russia. In the United Nations, only Afghanistan, North Korea, Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Syria recognize Crimea as a legitimate federal subject of Russia.
