The Pentagon: Military cooperation between US and Russia remains limited

Military cooperation between Russia and the USA remains suspended, as it is enshrined in the country’s laws, Lt. Colonel Michelle Baldanza said, as reported by Interfax.

"The Ministry of Defense has suspended military cooperation with the Russian armed forces after the illegal actions of Russia to annex the Crimea, and this limitation is spelled out legally under the law in the powers specified by the National Defense Authorization Act," - said Baldanza, commenting on the statement of Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu on the possibility of cooperation between Russia and the US military on the liberation of Raqqa.

According to a Defense Ministry representative, Russia and the US continue to cooperate “on a limited number of issues, such as security operations for deployed forces.”

“Periodic telephone conversations on the safety of pilots above Syria is an example of this dynamic,” noted Baldanza.

In addition, Lt. Colonel Baldanza also mentioned that the US and Russian military maintain a “hot-line” connection at the highest levels.
