MiG-29 from Russian Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier crashed due to decision delay in landing
The delay in making a decision on an alternative landing site is what caused the crash of a MiG-29 fighter jet the on the 13th of November .
According to Lenta.ru, the Russian aircraft carrier, Admiral Kuznetsov, suffered a breakage of its arresting gear resulting in the jet not being able to land on the carrier. Due to the delay in deciding on an alternative landing site, the fighter jet ran out of fuel and crashed.
“The break of the cable of the arresting gear and the delay in the repair of the fault was the starting point for this event. The pilot was forced to eject after running out of fuel as the Command didn’t want to send the fighter jet to an alternate airfield, hoping for a quick repair of the fault on the ship’s deck. If the pilot simply landed at Hmeymin airbase or in Cyprus, the military commanders would have had to report on this incident and would receive a reprimand,” reported Lenta.ru citing its source in the Russian military.
“In the end, someone will have to report on the loss of the fighter jet, which costs about 2 billion rubles,” the source added.
According to an official report of the Ministry of Defense, technical malfunction, the details of which weren’t disclosed, was the cause of the crash. Later, the bmpd.livejournal.com military blog of the Russuan Centre for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies reported, citing its own sources, that the fighter jet wasn’t able to land on the aircraft carrier’s deck due to the breakage of the cable of the arresting gear, as well as a delay in repairing this fault.
On the 13th of November, a MiG-29KR from the 100th separate naval fighter regiment was lost in the Eastern Mediterranean as a result of an air accident.
