Media: US Ambassador to Ukraine will not be replaced

The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine reported that the U.S. Ambassador in Kyiv, Marie Yovanovitch, is excluded from the recall of diplomats due to the election of Donald Trump as the President of the U.S.A., as reported by a source in the Embassy to Ukrainian News.

“There are two types of diplomatic appointments, political and career. Marie Yovanovitch is a career diplomat, therefore she will not be affected,” the representative of the agency said.

According to a mandate issued by Trump, all diplomats appointed for political reasons will have to resign before his inauguration. There are about 50 such ambassadors including those in 15 EU countries and a number of international organizations; in particular, NATO, the OSCE, and the UN. Trump’s inauguration will take place on 20 January.
