Japanese media: Russian research vessel entered Japanese waters without permission

The newspaper Yomiuri claims that a Russian vessel has conducted a survey within the exclusive economic zone of Japan, in the area of the Strait of La Perouse between Sakhalin and the island of Hokkaido, without the permission of the Japanese side.

According to its information, the Russian-owned vessel was less than 50 km from Cape Soya (the northernmost point of Hokkaido) on June 5. It is alleged that the vessel supposedly dumped research equipment into the water, which was recorded by the Japanese coast guard. After about an hour, the ship left the Japanese economic zone.

The newspaper also reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan allegedly demanded that the Russian side take measures to prevent such actions without special permission.
