Former Romanian President predicts that Moldova will join Romania

The former president of Romania, Traian Băsescu, believes that Moldova will eventually become part of Romania.

“Every state has the right to decide its fate. Moldova will become a part of Romania, not through force, but through the will of the people,” Băsescu said this while at a meeting with representatives of the youth movements of the two countries.

According to Ukrinform news portal, he also expressed confidence that there are already enough votes in the Parliament of Romania to support the union of the two countries. In addition, Băsescu voiced his surprise at the fact that the Moldovan Academy of Sciences had named the Romanian language as the official language of the country. However, the vast majority of the Moldovan media still broadcasts in Russian.

A massive “march of reunification” with Romania was hosted at the end of March in Chișinău. Protesters called Moldova’s unification with Romania a step towards joining the European Union.
