Belarus will not admit holders of DPR and LPR passports

It is not possible to enter Belarus with a passport from the self proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) or Luhansk People’s Republic (LPR), as stated by Anton Bychkovsky, an official representative of the State Border Committee of Belarus, the Belarusian Telegraph Agency (BelTA) reported.

According to Bychovsky, it is possible to cross the border into Belarus only with documents that are recognized by international and bilateral agreements.

“We follow the current laws. If a person attempts to cross the border without the proper documents, we cannot admit him,” said Bychkovsky.

He added that, if such persons are found upon departure of the country, they will be brought to justice in accordance with the law.

As has already been reported, on February 18th the official website of the Kremlin published a decree signed by the Russian President Vladimir Putin stating that Russia will recognize documents issued to citizens of Ukraine as well as residents without citizenship who permanently reside in the territory of Luhansk and Donetsk regions, which are areas occupied by pro-Russian separatists.

Germany and France have both asserted that Putin’s decision to recognize passports from DPR and LPR violates the Minsk Protocol.

The European Union has declared that travel documents issued by the so-called DPR and LPR will not be recognized within countries of the EU.
