Acura suspends delivery of cars to Russia

Acura, part of Honda, has suspended delivery of its cars to Russia. A representative of Honda Motors Rus LLC, who is the official distributor of Honda and Acura in Russia, told Autonews.ru that this decision was made “because of the current market situation”. The representative added that if this situation changes, deliveries may resume.

Dealers of the Japanese brand will close their doors on the 1st of June. A representative of Acura has said that “guarantees will also stay intact”.

Acura began selling cars in Russia in 2014. The company distributes three of its models to the country: the MDX crossover, starting at 3.049 million rubles ($47,000); the RDX crossover, starting at 2.299 million rubles ($35,000) and the TLX sedan, starting at 1.849 million rubles ($28,000). During the last two years, Acura sold approximately 2000 cars in Russia, with the MDX crossover being the most popular.

In September 2015, Honda announced that payments would be directly transferred to the manufacturer and would therefore bypass Honda Motors Rus LLC. The Russian division would however still supply parts and facilitate car services.
