Lithuanian Parliament adopts resolution condemning 'Russia's aggression against Ukraine'

On Monday, December 10, the Seimas of Lithuania adopted a resolution “On supporting Ukraine against the aggression of the Russian Federation”. The decision was supported by 79 people.

“The adopted resolution strongly condemns the military aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, as well as the aggressive unilateral actions that harshly violate bilateral and multilateral agreements and international law. They threaten the entire region and the security of Europe․ The resolution calls for immediate actions,” the press service stated.

The decree includes three points: the transfer of the control over Kerch Strait to the United Nations; the transfer of the control over the Russia-occupied territories to the United Nations; and the release of all Ukrainian political and war prisoners arrested and detained in Russia.

The resolution of the Seimas calls on EU countries and NATO member countries to expand and strengthen sanctions against Russia, as well as expand and deepen cooperation with Ukraine by strengthening defense capabilities of Ukraine, assisting Ukraine to implement reforms and ensuring that Ukraine is fully ready to launch negotiations to access the EU.

Earlier, Lithuania adopted individual sanctions against citizens of the Russian Federation involved in the seizure of Ukrainian sailors.
