Russian Foreign Minister warns of turmoil in case of failed nuclear deal with Iran

The failure of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action Plan (JCPOA) on a nuclear deal with Iran, like other international agreements, will lead to turmoil in world affairs, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in an interview with the newspaper Kommersant.

“If the legal arrangements agreed upon between the leading countries fail, it may entail mishmash when everyone is for himself. It will be very sad,” the minister said.

Lavrov added that the possible withdrawal of Washington from the nuclear deal would only provoke further confrontation.

Earlier, the minister said that without the participation of the United States, it would be “impossible” to carry out a nuclear deal. “This agreement cannot be done if one of the participants independently leaves it. It will fall apart, there will be no agreement,” the minister explained.

On Saturday, January 13, Trump said that the United States would, for a time, refuse to adopt sanctions against Iran, as European countries agreed to “rectify the terrible shortcomings” of the nuclear deal. The American president said that he would give Europe “one last chance.” Russia regarded the actions of Washington as “negative,” calling the policy of the White House “a destructive path.”
