Another marine brigade to be established in Ukraine in October

Another marine brigade will be formed by the end of October 2018. The brigade’s commander and his deputies have already been appointed, stated the Commander of the Ukrainian Naval Infantry, Major General Yuriy Sodol, Radio Svoboda reports.

Sodol explained that a commander has already been chosen for the brigade and he is now at the permanent base of the brigade at Dachne village of the Bilyaivsky district, which is about 30 kilometers from Odessa.

"The modern military camp with a dormitory for officers, improved dormitory for contracted soldiers, sports and healthcare center, and medical unit has been established in Dachne specially for the marines,” Sodol said.

According to the reform plan of the Ukrainian naval forces, the division of the naval forces into naval command and naval infantry was made at the beginning of 2018 to optimize its management. Commander Sodol is under direct responsibility of the Commander of the Naval Forces of Ukraine, Ihor Voronchenko.

Naval infantry is a universal branch of the military that can fight on the water, on the ground or in the air, independently or in conjunction with another unit.
