Russia justifies arms supplies to Myanmar

Supplies of Russian military products to Myanmar are being made to strengthen the defense capacity of this country, as stated in the Russian Foreign Ministry’s comments in response to a statement by the US State Department’s representative that the supply of Russian weapons could aggravate the situation in Myanmar.

"Supplies of Russian military products to Myanmar are meant to strengthen the defense capacity of this country. To see the link between this task and the threat of "even greater suffering" of the civilian population can only be from the very "rich" imagination of a colleague from the State Department," the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry reads.

The Russian Foreign Ministry reminded that the "people of South-east Asia have hardly forgotten the losses and destruction caused by American weapons during the numerous wars that the US has waged in the region in the recent past."

Earlier, the US State Department said that the supply of Russian weapons could lead to aggravation of the situation in Myanmar where clashes continue between the authorities and representatives of the Rohingya people.
